The registration application made under the “Plastic Waste Reduction Program” conducted by the international verification and certification body VERRA has been successfully completed. Biotrend Energy has become the first company in Turkey to complete the registration process in the category of plastic waste collection.
Within the scope of the project, plastic waste is effectively separated from mixed municipal waste through mechanical sorting and material recovery systems located at our integrated waste management facilities in the provinces of Bursa, Balıkesir, İzmir, and Uşak. These separated plastic wastes are directed to licensed interim storage facilities or recycling plants without being released into the environment, thus being included in recovery processes.
This project, which prevents plastic waste from harming the environment and contributes to the circular economy, has also integrated the creation and sale of plastic certificates into our company’s revenue model. Similar to carbon credit projects, plastic certificates are expected to become a significant value-added and sustainable income item in the near future.
This development is an indicator of Biotrend’s competence in developing internationally certified projects aligned with its strategy of generating value from waste, and it also reinforces our company’s leadership vision in sustainability and the circular economy.
