Our 2023 Sustainability Report is Now Published

30 Aralık 2024

At Biotrend Energy, we contribute to a sustainable future by transforming waste into valuable resources through integrated waste management and renewable energy production. In our first Sustainability Report, we comprehensively detail the environmental, economic, and social benefits we have provided through our efforts in 2023.

Here are the key highlights from our 2023 Sustainability Report:

Sustainable Energy Production and Waste Management

Biotrend Energy operates across 19 facilities throughout Turkey. These include 11 integrated waste management and energy production plants, 6 energy production plants, 1 solid fuel preparation plant, and 1 greenhouse. Our expertise in waste management involves processing waste using advanced technologies such as mechanical separation, RDF (refuse-derived fuel), composting, and biogas. Additionally, we manage these facilities through long-term Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) agreements in collaboration with municipalities. In 2023, we generated $2.3 million in revenue from carbon credit sales, significantly reducing our carbon footprint.

As of 2023, with improvements made at the Ezine Biomass Energy Plant and Giresun Landfill Gas Electricity Production Plant, we increased our installed power capacity from 99.2 MWe to 118.4 MWe. As a result, we continued selling all the electricity produced under the previous YEKDEM tariff. The total power capacity of our electricity production licenses reached 181.2 MWe.

Renewable Energy Investments

At Biotrend, we are not only focused on waste-to-energy production but also on making sustainable investments for the future. We are working on projects in plastic recycling, steam sales, solar energy plants, and electricity storage. As one of the largest players in Turkey's biomass market, we continue to invest in new projects while maintaining our leadership in the field. With our completed greenhouse investment in Sivas, we are engaged in undercover farming activities, aiming to produce approximately 2,500 tons of cluster tomatoes annually.

Circular Economy and Carbon Footprint Reduction

Our leadership in waste management and renewable energy production is strengthened by our commitment to a circular economy. We are bringing waste back into the economy through recycling processes and contributing to environmental protection by recycling both plastic and organic waste. In 2023, our carbon credit projects prevented approximately 2.4 million tons of CO₂e emissions, and we are progressing towards our goal of reducing emissions by 2-3 million tons annually.

Technological Investments and Digitalization

At Biotrend Energy, we integrate technological developments and digitalization into our processes at every step. In our biogas plants, we use advanced technology fermenters, digital monitoring systems, and process optimization software to enhance operational efficiency. These investments not only improve our energy efficiency but also help us reduce emissions and waste.

Sustainable Water Usage

As pressure on water resources increases, Biotrend Energy is also taking steps to improve water efficiency. Under the ISO 14046 Water Footprint standard, we measure our water consumption and recycle wastewater for reuse in our production processes. In doing so, we reduce our water footprint and contribute to sustainable water management.

Future Goals and Strategies

As Biotrend Energy, we continue our sustainable investments by effectively utilizing green financing sources in line with Turkey's renewable energy and waste management policies. In 2023, we conducted sustainable lease certificate sales worth 100 million TL, and with this financing, we aim to manage our operations with more environmentally friendly projects.

The data shared in our 2023 Sustainability Report not only highlights our achievements but also showcases the steps we are taking towards a future that benefits the environment, economy, and society. As Biotrend Energy, we will continue contributing to Turkey’s energy transformation with our work in sustainable energy production and waste-to-energy production.
