In 2023, a glass greenhouse investment was completed on 54 thousand m2 of land next to Sivas BES in order to realize greenhouse agriculture. The Sivas Greenhouse aims to produce approximately 2,500 tons of bunch tomatoes annually using the latest technology and soilless agriculture techniques. The first crops were planted in the last quarter of 2023. Bioheat produced at Sivas BES will be used in the greenhouse. Biotrend aims to transform the heat potential from combined energy generation into a contribution to the national economy, support local development and create benefits in sustainable agriculture by realizing greenhouse investments in other facilities, especially in Uşak and inegöl Facilities.
Upcycling Plastics with Pyrolysis Method
Thanks to the new collaboration with Honeywell, plastic upcycling of plastics will be realized by pyrolysis. Unlike mechanical recycling, which is limited by contamination and complications arising from material separation and sorting, plastic upcycling is a process where the material is reduced to its original chemical building blocks so that it can be recycled into new products. In Biotrend's Izmir Harmandalı and Bergama plants, which are currently in operation in the Aegean Region, 90 thousand tons of waste film plastic will be selected and sent to the project area annually from the two plants with additional mechanical separation units to be built to the existing mechanical separation sections. The plastic waste separated from the mixed waste in the project area will be cleaned, crushed/shredded, washed and concentrated in the pre-treatment facilities to be established; the cleaned and prepared homogeneous mixture will be fed to the Honeywell Pyrolysis unit at a rate of 60,000 tons per year, from which 55,000 tons/year of sustainable polymer raw material will be obtained as output. The products obtained are planned to be sold with maximum benefit in order to contribute to the circular economy. In this context, the final contract, which is essential for the continuation of the project, was signed between Honeywell UOP Limited and Biotrend İleri Dönüşüm ve Yenilenebilir Enerji Teknolojileri Sanayi Anonim Şirketi within the framework of the previously signed protocols, taking into account the Engineering, Procurement and Installation (EPC) conditions for the structuring of the project and the ongoing project financing studies for maintenance and repair services.
